Carl A. Getman, 80, formerly of East Main Street in Nelliston, died early Monday morning at Palatine Nursing Home where he had been a patient since 1978.
Born Jan. 8, 1906 in Ephratah, he was the son of Albert and Bertha Glenar Getman and resided there as a young boy.
For more than 30 years he was employed as a night watchman at the former Beech-Nut Tracking Company in Canajoharie and later as a roadman with the Town of Palatine Highway Department, where he worked for 15 years before retiring in 1971.
He married Alwilda Monk in Sprakers Sept. 14, 1929 and moved to Nelliston in 1936. She died Dec. 22, 1980.
He is survived by two daughters, Gwendolyn J. Getman and Mrs. Robert (Evelyn A.) Bernstein, both of Nelliston, and three grandchildren, Nona (David) Ohlschwager and Michael (Trisha) Bernstein, both of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, and Terre L Bernstein of Nelliston. Funeral services will be held (today) Wednesday at 2 p.m. from Swartz Funeral Home, Inc.. Center Street in Fort Plain, with the Rev. David Hubbard, pastor of the United Methodist Church of Fort Plain, officiating.
Burial will be in Fort Plain Cemetery. There will be no calling hours, Memorial contributions may be made to Mid-County Volunteer Ambulance Service.
