"The history told that Christian Herrnleben [Frederick's father] was a farmer in Bavaria until July 4, 1840 when he and four of his sons went to Hamburg, Germany and on July 26 took passage on the sailing vessel "Gibson" for America. No mention was made of first wife dying or his second wife coming along. It took sixty six days to reach New York. From there they went to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and on to Pittsburgh. The following October they reached Boonville, Missouri in Cooper County where Christian purchased land.

Christian's son, Frederick Herrnleben served as an apprentice for three years at papermaking but he did not follow that trade. He received a common school education and assisted his father on the farm until he was twenty two years of age. Frederick came to America in 1840 with his father and three brothers. Then in 1850, he and his brother, George went to the state of California by wagon. The trip took 126 days. In 1854, Frederick returned by boat and located in Linn Township near Jamestown, Missouri where he lived the rest of his life. During the Civil War he served three years in the enrolled militia. In 1855 he married Caroline Moser."

This information comes directly from "German-Swiss Roots ~ Genealogies for Lefmann, Scheurer, Burger, Gentzsch, Herrnleben and Moser Families" by Joy Lefmann Scheunemann 2002 - Page 57, Part IV, HERRNLEBEN-MOSER-MURI FAMILIES

She states in the opening paragraph of this chapter as follows regarding her source material.

"The history of the Herrnleben, Moser and Muri families coming to America and then to Missouri was obtained from Goodspeed's 1889 History of Missouri plus a few old obituaries that were passed on to my Grandmother Annie Caroline Herrnleben Gentzsch Scheurer. I am also grateful to the many relatives who shared their family information..."
