Eugene Vernon Drury, 75, of Waynesville died Tuesday evening (April 27, 2010) at Emanuel Medical Center in Swainsboro after an extended illness.

Born in Waynesville his parents were Robert Roy and Coyla Rhoden Drury. He is also preceded in death by a sister, Jaurelle Berlin.

Eugene served in the U.S. Army and was a retired teacher for Camden County and loved to read. Also he was a member of Lulaton Baptist Church. And was also known as "Papa Gene" by Micah and Jared Strickland sons of John Strickland.

Survivors include his 2 sisters, Roberta Colson of Fruit Cove, FL and Winifred Thomas of Woodbine; 3 nieces, Sherry Carter of Palmetto, GA, Barbara Young of Fruit Cove, FL and Lynn Prescott of Houston, TX; also several other relatives.

A graveside service will be held Saturday morning (May 1, 2010) at 11AM at Oak Grove Cemetery in Camden Co. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service starting at 10AM.

Frye Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
