Rev. Norman R. George, 74, attended State Teacher's College and taught grammar school for two years before he decided to enter the seminary. He did his theological training at the Canisianum, Innsbruck, Austria and was ordained on April 2, 1933. He returned to the Diocese of Buffalo and served as assistant pastor of St. Joachim, St. Mary Magdalene and Our lady Help of Christians, St. Vincent de Paul, St. Boniface and St. Joseph New Cathedral, all in Buffalo except Our Lady Help of Christians which is in Cheektowaga.
Father George was assigned to his first pastorate at Immaculate Conception, Eden, where he built a new church and school. In 1962, he was named pastor of St. Mary Magdalene in Buffalo and in 1967, became pastor of SS. Peter and Paul in Hamburg, where he remained until his death in a tragic automobile accident.
He was honored in 1978 for being actively involved in the building of the Creek Bend Housing Complex for senior citizens, for his deep interest in adult and children's religious education and for his ecumenical efforts in the Hamburg area.
During assignments in Buffalo, he was active in the Urban League and HOME as well as being a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Knights of St. John. He had served with the State Guard and held several positions with the 65th Regiment.
