Fern was the daughter of Ben and Mary Scearce. She had one brother, Jerry Lynn and one sister, Judy Ann. She died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Fern was suffering from severe depression. She was loved by all who knew her. Fern was married to Donney K. Jarnigan at the time of her death. About a year before her death she and him were fighting and he twisted her arm behind her back crushing her elbow. By the time my uncle, Coy Scearce was notified by Claiborne Co. Hos. to take her to Fort Sanders Hos. at Knoxville, TN., her arm had swollen so bad they had to take her to surgery and removed 22 pieces of bone from her arm. They had to re-attach it with wire's and pin's. She told me the week before she shot herself that if he hit her again she was going to kill him and then herself. She didn't kill him. The funeral home director told us that she had a large bruise on her hip, as if she had been thrown into something. We will never know. She was very close to her mother. I don't think she could have made it through losing our mom. They were alway's close, even when she was a little girl, she was really protective of our mom. She had a really great personality and was fun to be around. She loved to dance and could shoot pool very well. She loved fast car's and she enjoyed working on them. She went to school for awhile and took welding! No one will ever know what happened to her to cause her to end her life. She was having marital problem's at the time and I know that she knew something was very wrong with our mom. All I can say is she was a great sister and she was devoted to her family. She is greatly missed. Fly with the Angel's sissie!
