Daniel was born a Steward. The record of his birth in Salem records spells his name as Steward and not Stewart like his older siblings born in Rowley MA.

"At the age of forty-two, Daniel Steward was a soldier in the War of the Revolution...In 1764 Fitchburg was set off from Lunenburg, and...Daniel lived there. Daniel was a clock maker, in the settlement of his affairs, [he had] several clocks...parts of clocks and watches and working tools, vices et cetera...Daniel Steward must have been a gentleman of good taste and intelligence. He was school Commisioner in 1783." --- History of Fitchburg.
