Professional baseball player 1871-1890. Position player for the Cleveland Forest Citys, the Chicago White Stockings, Boston Red Caps, Cincinnati Reds, Buffalo Bisons, Detroit Wolverines and the Pittsburgh Alleghenys.

Player/manager for the 1872 Cleveland Forest Citys and the 1879 Cincinnati Reds.

Elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame on Dec, 3, 2012.
