Roger L. Basinger

PANDORA -- Roger L. Basinger, 77, of Pandora, died at 5:45 a.m. Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima.

Roger was born on March 2, 1933 in Pandora to Alvan and Mary Lora Basinger. He married Jan Herr on December 18, 1960, and she survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Stacy (Bill Hawk) Shafer, Lima; a son, Scott (Michelle) Basinger, Pataskala, OH; a grandson, Adam Hofacker, Ft. Wayne, Ind.; 2 granddaughters, Abigail and Emily Basinger, Pataskala, OH; four sisters, Myra West and Donna Kacerek, both of Ventura, Calif.; Caris Veazey, Santa Barbara, Calif.; and Marjorie Geiger, Bluffton; and a host of family and friends.

Preceding him in death is a brother, Naden Basinger; and a sister, Bette Barre.

Mr. Basinger retired from CSX Railroad after 43 years. He was a member of the Rufus Putnam Masonic Lodge #364, Columbus Grove. Legion member of Moose Lodge #199, Lima and Elks Lodge #75, Findlay. He was a fan of OSU and was called "Buckeye Rog". He helped in the press box at Pandora-Gilboa football games and enjoyed working on his lawn and taking care of his four legged friends. He was a 1951 graduate of Pandora High School.

A funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 1, 2010 at Chiles-Laman Funeral Home, Bluffton, the Rev. Judy Huber officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Pandora.

Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home, with a masonic service at 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to P-G Rocket Athletic Boosters or Gerad Cancer Center, Lima.
