The funeral will be at 10 a.m. today, at the Schilling Funeral Home with Dr. E. E. Elliott officiating. Masonic rites will begin at 10 a.m. with the funeral immediately following. Burial will be in Dodge Grove Cemetery with military rites.
He was born May 13,1923, in Mattoon, the son of William A. and Grace McCleary Pyle. He married Dene Evans in 1970. She survives.
Also surviving is a brother, Howard J. Pyle and his wife Evelyn of Champaign; a stepbrother, Kermeth Claxon and his wife Eunice of Mattoon; two nieces, Sandra Pyle Ford of Champaign and Linda Pyle Thompson and her husband, Warren, of Sullivan; a great-niece, Tina Thompson of Sullivan; and a great-nephew, Brian Ford of Champaign.
He was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather, a stepsister and a great nephew.
Mr. Pyle earned a bachelor's degree and a master's degree from Eastern Illinois University. He taught in Havana High School, Roodhouse High and Pana High School. He then taught business at Mattoon High School for 20 years, retiring in 1984. He also helped with the Mattoon High School R.O.T.C. students. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific. He retired from the Army National Guard after serving for 20 years. He was past president of the Lion's Club, past master of the Masonic Lodge, member of the Eagles and Moose, all of Mattoon. He was a 32nd Degree Mason of the Danville Consistory. He was a 60-plus-year member of the First Baptist Church in Mattoon and had served on several committees and boards as well as being deacon of the church.
