Daniel Long was my Grandmother (Ruth Long's) great-great grandfather. He was the son of Ware Long and Sarah Robinson Long. He married Elizabeth (Garrett?) Children by his first marriage were Seamore 1783-1832; Ware 1785-1877; Reuben 1786-1860; James H. 1787-1810; Daniel 1791-1844; Nancy 1793-1810; and Elizabeth Long 1797-1860. He and Elizabeth separated. He left her in South Carolina and went to Madison County, Alabama. He then married Martha (Strong) Stroud October 24, 1827 in Alabama. There are no known children by his second marriage. Daniel entered the Revloutionary War in 1778 in Culpeper County, Virginia. He served as a private in the VIRGINIA LIGHT HORSE CALVARY OF THE DRAGOON VIRGINIA CONTINENTIAL LINE. He enlisted under COLONEL BLAND of the 1ST REGIMENT. They were sent to Staunton to winter quarters and from there, under the command of LT.SCOTT, they were sent to Albemarle Barracks. There they remained until the Virginia troops marched to Charleston, South Carolina where they were transferred to COLONEL WILLIAM WASHINGTON'S CORPS, which was the 3RD REGIMENT.
