Dr. Will Rogers Wallace, 72, of Kenbridge, Virginia, died December 18, 2008. Will and his identical twin Wiley were born January 12, 1936 at the family home at 12642 Plank Road in Kenbridge. They were named after entertainer Will Rogers and his pilot Wiley Post, who died in a plane crash on August 15, 1935 in Point Barrow, Alaska. Will was an ordained minister of the Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, who retired from the Seventh Street Christian Church, Richmond, in January 1999 and returned home to Lunenburg County to build the house of his dreams - a log cabin. He graduated from Kenbridge High School in 1954 and joined the U.S. Navy with his twin brother, where they served their country from 1954 to 1958. Will earned his Bachelor of Sacred Literature degrees from Johnson Bible College in Knoxville TN, and his Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degrees from Lexington Theological Seminary in Lexington KY. The first two churches he served were Oakland Christian Church and Ontario Christian Church, both in Lunenburg County VA. Other pastorates included churches in Dobson NC, Hodgenville KY, Greenville NC, and Richmond VA. In 1999, he became minister of Ledbetter Christian Church in Meherrin VA, where he remained until his death. Will and Wiley, with their musical talents, performed for many years, Wiley on the guitar and Will on the mandolin. Will and his three daughters also had a family band for many years, with Will playing guitar, and the girls on violins and fiddles. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Gail Smith Wallace; his daughters, Cindy Wallace of Dandridge TN, Laura W. Knight and husband, David Knight, of Knoxville TN, and Connie Wallace and fiance, Shane Cox, of Knoxville TN; his twin brother and wife, Rev. Wiley Post Wallace and Carole F. Wallace of Kenbridge; sister-in-law and husband, Jennifer and Rickey Elmore of Knoxville TN; and his brother-in-law, Jess Smith of Wilmington NC. Funeral services were conducted on Monday, December 22, at the Kenbridge Christian Church, officiated by Dr. James M. Wray, VP of Lexington Theological Seminary, with burial following in Kenbridge Heights Cemetery. Arrangements were made by the Clarke Funeral Home in Kenbridge.
