SHELBY - D.C. Black, 93, of 199 Pleasant Ridge Church Road, died April 25, 2010, at Cleveland Pines.
A native of Cleveland County, he was a farmer and a carpenter with Hamrick Construction. He was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church where he was a former deacon. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Cavalry and served on New Caldonia in the Philippines.

He was preceded in death by parents Marion Columbus Black and Bertha Ledford Black; wife Ruby Frances McCraw Black; brothers Clingman Black and Amos Black; and sister Alfie Delozier.

He is survived by son Kenny Black and wife, Donna, of Graham; daughters Freida Jones and husband, Wayne, of Blacksburg, SC, and Brenda Morrison and husband, Roger, of Shelby; grandchildren Dusty Black and Jennifer Kody Black, Kolton Black, Kannon Black, Kassidy Black, Branson Black, Sgt. Clint Morrison and Heather Jessica Morrison, Leslie Cobb and Tommy, Pam Ruppe and Brandon; step grandson Ben Morrison; step granddaughter Tammy Crotts and Kale; great grandchildren Alexis Cobb, Caitlin Cobb, Levi Ruppe and Lucas Ruppe.

Visitation: The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Cleveland Funeral Services.
Funeral: Wednesday, at 2 p.m., at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church.
