As I remember from hearing my father, the late W. D. Kuykendall, and others, tell about the early days in and around Cherokee, there were four white men killed by the Indians. One was a man by the name Lynn. The second man killed was a man by the name of Phillips.
Henry Cavenss (footnote: Henry was looking for his race horse stolen by Indians, his son Thomas Joe was killed [sic, Henry was Thomas Joes' uncle]; not Henry) was killed about 4 miles west of Cherokee. He was out looking for his horses one morning. There were several Indians in the bunch. They cut him off from the house, ran on to him and shot his horse. ___ Williams
