Halcyone H. Tappy, 92, died on Saturday, March 21, 1998 in Sterling. Visitation and viewing will begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March26 at Chaney-Walters Funeral Home. Services will be held at 10:30 am. on Friday, March 27 at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. John E. Roberts officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Mrs. Tappy was born on August 10, 1905 to Ira Hoyle and Laura McLaughlin Hoyle in Hackberry, Okia. In 1918, she moved with her family to the Berthoud area where her father owned a small acreage of land. She graduated in 1925 and then taught for one year at a school near Lyons. She boarded with a family and was able to get home for the weekends. During this time, her family moved to a place 12 miles north of Stoneham. For the next three years she taught school in that area at Liberty and Peace Valley. She married Russell Tappy on June 26, 1929 and moved to his homestead north of Stoneham, where they raised their family. She moved to Sterling in 1984. Mrs. Tappy was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sterling.
She is survived by one daughter, Phyllis A. Moore and husband Sam of Sterling; two sons, Davis Tappy and wife Gayle of Sterling; Forrest Tappy and wife Judy of Stoneham; one daughter-in-law, Janice Tappy of Sterling; eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, four step great-grandchildren and two step great-great grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her husband in 1975, her son Norman in 1982, one brother and two sisters.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church or the Cooperating Ministry.
