Agnes Margarite Dora Jebens was born May 27, 1885 at Schleswig-Holstein, Germany to Ferdinand, August George Jebens and Margarite Maria Ketelsen, the second of their three children. Agnes had an older brother, Andrew Augustus Jebens and a younger brother, Carlie Ferdinand Jebens.

When Agnes was just six months old, she emigrated with her mother and brother, Andrew to the U.S. Her father had left for America a short time before them.

Agnes married Lycurgus Kirk Calvert Jr on March 4, 1903 at ​the Jebens home, Baggs, Carbon, Wyoming. The couple had 6 children: Viola Margaret (1904-2000); Minnie Leone (1905-1992); Fred James (1908-1987); Edna Jane (1914-1965); Charles Edward (1920-1965) and Robert Kirk (1923-2007). ​
