A.W. Hundley Dies At 94

Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock p.m. Sunday [Jun 15] at the Stanton chapel in Atchison for A.W. (Uncle Wash) Hundley, 94, probably the oldest native-born resident who died at the Atchison hospital Thursday, June 12, at 10:40 p.m. The Rev. C. Raymond Buck officiated. Interment was in Sumner cemetery. Pallbearers were six grandsons; Earl E., James L., Robert F., Robert E., Leslie A., Frank Hundley, jr.

Andrew Washington Hundley was born June 15, 1857, in Atchison county near Oak Mills, a son of James and Levenia Keller Hundley, early pioneers of this vicinity. He retired from farming and moved to Atchison in March, 1914. Later, Mr. Hundley did truck gardening and other work. Oct. 4, 1882, Mr. Hundley married Mandalia Downey, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ezekiel Downey of Atchison county. She died April 20, 1951, at age of 86. For some time he had made his home with his son, Floyd Hundley, 1133 Parallel street, Atchison.

Mr. Hundley was a member of the Baptist church. He was a good citizen and esteemed by a large circle of friends. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. C.O. Watson, Atchison; four sons, Frank, Bryant, Earl and Floyd Hundley, all of Atchison; 23 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
