Merby Ann Bryant was born on April 22, 1869 in Ohio. She was the daughter of Richard Bennona and Elizabeth Jane (Mason) Bryant.

Merby grew up with her seven siblings in Wirt County, West Virginia. She attended the local schools and completed the 8th Grade.

Merby married Robert Franklin Stallings, son of James and Martha (Ruark) Stallings, on July 3, 1886 in Wirt County, West Virginia. They were united in marriage by W. F. Kiger.

Shortly after their marriage they settled in Monroe, Perry County, Ohio. Together Merby and Robert had seven children: James Richard, George Henry, Sara Jane, Everett Russel, Joseph Virgil, Madison Leroy, and Carl Ezra Stallings.

Merby was a housewife from the time of her marriage. She was a member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church.

Merby died on June 4, 1947 in Corning, Perry County, Ohio following several years of illness. At the time of her death, she was survived by her husband, two sisters, six sons, and numerous other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, one brother, and four sisters. She is buried at Oakwood Cemetery in Millertown, Perry County, Ohio.
