Harry E. Brigden
Harry E. Brigden, 65, of 171 North Union, a retired Consumers Power Co. supervisor, and a son of the late William Wharton Brigden, died in a local hospital at 7 p. m. yesterday after a short illness. He retired last August after a career with Consumers that spanned more than 30 years. His father, who died in 1939, was credited with being the founder of the city's water and sanitary sewer systems. The city's new water booster station and reservoir is named in his honor. Harry E. Brigden was born in Battle Creek on Aug. 18, 1886, a son of William Wharton and Jennie (Evans) Brigden. He attended Battle Creek schools, and lived in Battle Creek all his life. He married Nelle Fox in 1928, and she died in 1935. On July 12, 1938, he married Olive Bodine in Battle Creek, who survives. Other survivors are a sister, Mrs. Edward G. Austin of 15 Keith drive; a brother, George H. Brigden of 68 Colonial court; a cousin, George Evans of Fulton, and several nieces and nephews. He was a member of the First Methodist church. He was a supervisor of the repair department of Consumers' production and transmission division, which has its headquarters in Battle Creek.
