SIDNEY BARNHILL
Sidney Herbert "Rusty" Barnhill, the son of Daniel and Eveline Sullivan Barnhill, was born July 29, 1902 in Williamson County, Tennessee and entered the United States Marine Corps, when he was 18 years of age. A 30 year veteran, he served on active duty during World War II in the Pacific. He retired from the service in 1952 and lived in several locations before settling down at Bern, Kansas. He worked for the Nemaha County Road Department and in 1964 suffered injuries in a truck accident while working. He was unable to work after the accident and moved to Seneca. In 1981, he became a resident of Fountain Villa Nursing Home in Sabetha.
He was united in marriage to the former Leona Korber on June 13, 1941 at Ridgeland, South Carolina. She survives in Seneca. Other survivors include brothers, Leechie Barnhill of Primm Springs, Tenn., Bonnie Barnhill of Fairview, Tenn. and Ivol Barnhill of Burwood, Tenn. He was a member of the Oneida Masonic Lodge #323 AF & AM, the Arab Temple and Scottish Rite of Topeka, Kansas.
He died December 13, 1986. Memorial services will be held at Friedens United Church of Christ, north of Seneca, Dec. 20, 1986 at 10:30 a.m. Inurnment will be in the church cemetery.
