In Fond Remembrance
This week we are called upon to record the death of one of Dallas county’s best and most promising young men. Bert Allison Burd, son of Tom Burd and wife, was born at Long Lane, Mo. July 30, 1888, died January 5, 1919 being at the time of his death 30 years, 5 months and 4 days of age. On Xmas day he took sick with influenza and finally developed into pneumonia.
On September 26, 1910 he was married to Miss Ella Logan of Long Lane. To the happy union on April 27, 1918 a daughter, Dorothy Ella Louise, was born to complete the home.
In early boyhood he took a stand for Christ and in November 1907 he united with Long Lane Pisgah Baptist church where he has since been a faithful member. He will be greatly missed by the young people of his community (where he was a good worker) as well as the old.
He leaves to mourn his departure, a devoted companion and babe, father, mother, four brothers, Ambrose, Guy, Harley and Claud, three sisters, Gladys, Fleta and Hazel. All were present at the time of his death except one brother, Guy, who with his family are confined to their bed with influenza. One sister, Verna, died in infancy.
Yes, Bert many time a year, voice has been with ours in the choir and your place will ever be vacant and you will be greatly missed by we realize our loss is Heaven’s gain. Now we rest assured your dear voice is one of the Heavenly choir.
Altho it is so sad to give up one so dear, so young in life, death is something that comes to us, as death has so favorites. All we can do now is follow in the way Bert’s guiding hand will ever beckon us to go and meet him in the home above.
