Capt. Co. K, 143 Inf. 36 Inf Div.. Enlisted in 1941 and was sent to North Africa, then invasion of Italy and finally invasion of Europe. According to his funeral notice he was listed as a Prisoner of War but later died of wounds in Baden Baden, Germany on 8 May 1945.
Application for his headstone indicates his date of death as May 8, 1945. But this was apparently mistranscribed and headstone incorrectly reads May 1, 1944.
According to "after-action reports", Capt. Norris went missing on 10 Feb 1945 while his unit was attacking the village of Drusenheim, France. He was apparently recuperating in a POW unit in a German hospital in Baden Baden, Germany when the French forces liberated the hospital. Unfortunately, he died of his wounds on 8 May 1945.
