Thomas married Mary Elizabeth (Eliza) Wainscott in 1869 in Owen County. The couple moved from Owen County to Fayette County by the year 1894. Thomas worked as a guard at Eastern State Hospital, at one time.

           Thomas J. Cottrell, aged 72 years, died at his home, 434 East Seventh Street, Wednesday morning at 7:30 o'clock. He is survived by three daughters.

           Mrs. Mary Schooler, Mrs. Samuel J. Culler and Mrs. R. P. Biddell.

           Three brothers, James Cottrell, of Henry County; John Cottrell, of Louisville, and Douglas Cottrell, of Lexington.

           Two sisters, Mrs. Muller, of Scott County and Mrs. Henry Colter, of Illinois.

           Six Grandchildren, B. S. Henry, Katherine and Ruth Schooler and Katherine and Jefferson Biddell.

           The funeral services will take place at the residence Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, the Rev. Thomas B. Roberts and the Rev. J. M. Walker officiating. Burial will follow in the family lot in the Lexington cemetery.
