Springfield, S.C. - Mrs. Vanetta Gleaton Phillips, 70, of Orangeburg Avenue, died Saturday in a Richland County, S.C., hospital. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Springfield United Methodist Church with the Rev. Boyd Chewning officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mrs. Phillips was a native of Orange [sic] County, a graduate of Columbia College and taught school for many years in the Charleston, Wagener, Williston and Springfield public school systems. She was a member of Springfield United Methodist Church, the Methodist Women's Guild and the Retired Teachers Association. Survivors include a son, Lt. Col. David D. Phillips, Hampton, Va.; and three brothers, Ollin S. Gleaton, Neeses, S.C.; Ira F. Gleaton, Springfield, and Mike R. Gleaton, Newport News, Va. Memorial may be made to the Springfield Community Rescue Squad. Friends may call at the residence, Folk Funeral Home or the church after 2 p.m. Monday. © The Chronicle, Augusta, GA, 13 Sep 1981
