Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, Pat Allen, was called to our Lord and Savior on Tuesday, April 20th. We take this opportunity to reflect and celebrate his life and the lives that he touched.

He was born on September 19, 1939 in Sherman, TX, son of Sybil Blackburn Allen and Mike Allen. Pat attended and graduated from Hereford High School in Hereford, TX in 1957. Upon graduation, Pat enlisted to serve his country in the National Guard from 1957 through 1958. After serving his country, Pat enrolled at Texas Tech in Lubbock, TX, where he graduated with a Bachelor Degree of Science in Entomology in 1968. To continue and further his education, Pat enrolled at Texas A&M, in College Station, TX. Pat graduated with a Doctoral Degree in Veterinary Medicine in 1974. While at A&M, besides pursuing his degree, Pat was also a two-time NCAA Wrestling Champion for the university.

The new doctor with his young family in tow moved to Lamesa, TX to begin a career in Veterinary Medicine. While in Lamesa, Pat specialized in large animal medicine and the rehabilitation of wild birds from 1974-1976.

Pat and family moved from Lamesa back to Lubbock in 1976, where Pat continued his practice of veterinary medicine for the next 30 years. Pat specialized in small and exotic animal care at the South University Animal Hospital. Pat dedicated his life to the compassionate care of all animals. He was also a pioneer in the animal care field, introducing the first pet ambulance to respond to emergency medical needs in the field.

In recognition to his dedication and pursuit of excellence, Pat was appointed by Governor Rick Perry as Vice President of The Texas State Board of Veterinary Examiners in 2004; he held that appointment until the time of his death.

Pat will be remembered for his compassion, kindness, love and especially his humor with all of his family and friends. Pat had a true zest for life, which will truly be missed.

Pat is survived by his beloved wife of 27 years, Kathy Harrison Allen; his three cherished daughters, Cynie Allen Williams of Tulsa, OK, Dana Allen Villarreal and husband Alex Villarreal of McKinney, TX, and Stephanie Allen Christine and husband Blaine Christine of Austin, TX; and his three grandchildren, Cyd Williams of Dallas, TX, Creighton Williams of Norman, OK, and soon-to-be-born baby Christine of Austin, TX.

A Memorial Celebration Service of Pat's life will be held on Saturday, April 24, at 1 p.m. at The Oakwood Baptist Church at 6002 Avenue U., Lubbock, TX 79412.

Graveside Service will be held on Monday, April 26, at 1 p.m. at The Crestview Memorial Park at 1917 Archer City Highway, Wichita Falls, TX 76302.

The family is asking that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to The Dr. Pat Allen Scholarship Fund for Veterinary Students of Texas A&M. Checks in any amount can be sent to the "Dr. Pat Allen Scholarship Fund" at the Peoples Bank at 5820 82nd Lubbock, TX 79424, at the attention of Mike Phelps.

Pat will be greatly missed by the countless people he touched with his generosity and compassion.
