Juanita Mae Sweeney was born April 2, 1929 in Taylor County, Iowa, one of six daughters of George and Mary (Recknor) Ferguson.

Juanita graduated from Lenox High School and attended more than two years college, most of that at Southwestern Community College.

She was married on February 27, 1954 at St. Patrick's Church in Lenox to George James Sweeney. To this union was born three sons: David, Vincent, and Daniel.

Before marriage, Juanita was a school teacher in the Lenox School District. Following her marriage, she was a substitute teacher. She
worked as a clerk at the local dime store for awhile. Her most recent vocations included teaching at Taylor Ridge Estates, working at Karen's Kloset as a clerk and helping out on the farm whenever needed.

In addition to being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Juanita was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, C.C.W. (Altar Society), and the Lenox Country Club.

Juanita died March 2, 1996, at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines following a recent illness.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Georgia Stoaks and Helen Brokaw.

Juanita will be lovingly missed by her husband George of Lenox; three sons and daughters-in-law: David and Joyce Sweeney, Vincent and Deanna Sweeney and Daniel and Jayne Sweeney, all of Lenox; Nine grandchildren: Angela, Erin, and Christopher Sweeney; Adam, Tyler and Michal Sweeney, and Cacie, Dayna, and Paige Sweeney; three sisters: Merle Beggs of Creston, Marjorie Evans and her husband Leo of Lenox, and Thelma Boltinghouse of Lenox; as well as other relatives and many friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, March 5 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Lenox with Father Dan Siepker officiating.

Serving as pallbearers were Randy Samo, Mark Dougherty, Duane Dougherty, Richard O'Grady, Fred Haynes, and Glenn Norton. Diane
Lange as organist provided the musical selection. She accompanied Florence Robinson.

Mary Weese was the lector. Adam Sweeney, Jared Robinson, and Josh Sweeney were the altar servers. Pat Robinson and Steve Sweeney were ushers. Norbert Bradley was the car attendant.

Interment took place in the North Fairview Cemetery in Lenox. A memorial fund has been established in Juanita's name.

Coen-Beaty Funeral Home of Lenox was in charge of the arrangements.
