RELIANCE ­ David Nelson Gruver, 84, passed away Friday, April 1, 2005, at his home, the family farm where he was born and lived most of his life.
Mr. Gruver was born Oct. 11, 1920, in Reliance, son of the late David Newton and Nellie Bell Branner Gruver. He was a retired farmer and truck driver. He drove for O'Sullivan Corporation in Winchester for 15 years and was awarded for driving "a million miles without a chargeable accident." He was a member and trustee of Reliance United Methodist Church, Middletown Grange and the Retreat Motorcycle Club in Staunton. He enjoyed his free time riding his "Harley" with his brother Merle.
Surviving are his wife, Thelma Elizabeth Evans Gruver; three children, Guy T. Gruver, Bobby L. Gruver and Joyce Gruver Dunlap, all of Reliance; one brother, Arthur Williams Gruver of Reliance; his grandchildren, Jennifer Lynn Gruver Brinklow, Shawn Michael Smith and Bobby E. Gruver; and great-grandchild, Tristen Brinklow.
He was predeceased by one son, David Franklin Gruver.
The Rev. William N. Wade officiated the funeral service Tuesday, April 5, at Reliance United Methodist Church. Burial was in Reliance Cemetery.
