He was born January 11, 1935 to Roland and Don Ann Thornock in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He was a resident of Fairfax County for twenty-eight years.
He dedicated his life serving our country and retired as a Colonel U.S. Army, JAG, with thirty years of service, a Vietnam Veteran receiving numerous awards and honors. He then served as legal counsel for the Defense Intelligence Agency for fifteen years.
John was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ Latter-Day Saints and actively served in many leadership positions around the world including Bishop and Stake President. He particularly loved missionary work and served in three Washington DC South Mission presidencies. He was then called to a mission with his wife, Rochelle, at the Salt Lake City Temple Square Mission (2004-2005).
He was preceded in death by four of his children, Jeffrey, Gregory, Kristen, and Michael Thornock. He is survived by his childhood sweetheart and loving wife of fifty-five years, Rochelle Henderson Thornock, daughter Andrea, son Mark (Kelly), daughter-in-law Tori Thornock King (Jim), and daughter Kristalyn (Price) Jenkins, eleven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, April 24, 2010 in Virginia.
The interment is scheduled for Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at the Larkin Sunset Lawn Cemetery in Salt Lake City.
