DANBURY, Iowa -- Agnes Maxine Arney, 89, formerly of Holstein, Iowa, passed away Monday, April 19, 2010, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton, Iowa.

Services were Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Danbury, with the Rev. Terry Roder officiating. Burial was in Danbury Catholic Cemetery.

Agnes Maxine Arney was born Dec. 28, 1920, at Danbury, to Ray and Celestine (Fitzpatrick) Sexton. She was married to Robert Paul in February 1943 and later divorced. She then married Byron (Bill) Arney of Battle Creek, Iowa, in February 1953. The couple lived in the Battle Creek and Holstein areas and owned Blue Eagle Lanes in Holstein until July 2005. Bill passed away in June 1981.

Maxine was best known for her great catering business which she owned and operated from 1961 until 2005.

Survivors include a daughter, Janice Wolterman of Danbury; a stepson, Terry Arney of Sullivan, Maine; a grandchild, Patti (Mike) Manthorne of Sioux City; and three great-grandchildren, Ashley (Kyle) Hobbs of Athens, Ga., Alex Gosch of Sioux City and Carter Manthorne of Sioux City.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a son-in-law, Charles P. Wolterman; a grandson, Mike Wolterman; a great-grandson, Tyler Gosch; and a sister, Veda Mae (Sexton) Workman.
