Samuel Van Pelt Jr enlisted in the US Army on 24 July 1861 in Indiana. He was a Private in Company A 21st Regiment Indiana Heavy Artillery. He was discharged on 31 July 1864 in Louisiana due to the end of his term. He was admitted into the National Military Home in 28 May 1918 due to Senility Arteno Sclerosis, Defective Hearing and Impaired Vision. At the time of his admission he was 5-5 with gray hair and eyes, he was a farmer and could not read or write. He was married to Lucy Van Pelt who resided in Ashley Indiana. Samuel died on the 12th of February 1922 at 7:30 pm. His body was shipped back to Lucy in Ashley.
