The sad news reached this borough Wednesday morning that the 7-year-old son of John Reed, of Hazel Hurst, was drowned in the mill pond at that place Tuesday evening. The little boy, in company with other playmates, was playing on the logs in the pond when he fell into the water. The water was let out of the pond in order to recover the body of the little boy.

John, a young son of John Reed (sic), of Hazelhurst was missed by his parents last Tuesday night about 5 o'clock. Search was conducted but for a long time without avail. Finally the mill pond was drained and the body of the unfortunate boy was found.
