RICHARD EUGENE SAEGER JR. WAS CANDIDATE FOR 1988 U.S. OLYMPIC TEAM
FRANKLIN--Richard Eugene Saeger Jr., 35, RD 1, Polk, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, at his residence.
He was born at Flint, Mich., Aug. 16, 1965, son of Ruby Barrickman of Franklin and the late Richard Eugene Saeger Sr.
He graduated from Rocky Grove High School and worked as a telemarketer for Reese Brothers in Oil City. He competed in martial arts and earned a Silver Medal in the 1988 pre-Olympic tournament in New Orleans. He earned first-degree black belt status in tae kwan do and second-degree black belt in hobteko. He also enjoyed hunting, billiards and chess.
He was preceded in death by an uncle, Walter A. Stone; his maternal grandparents Walter and Ada Stone; and his paternal grandparents.
Besides his mother and stepfather, Charles Barrickman of Franklin, he is survived by a daughter, Allison Steetle of Utica; a brother, Lester Saeger of Cooperstown; a sister, Maryann Yount and her husband, Jerry, of Titusville; an aunt; two uncles; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at Robert W. Gardinier Funeral Home, 1315 Chestnut St., Franklin, Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A service will be held there Thursday at 11 a.m., officiated by the Rev. Dan Murray.
Burial will be at Nicklin Cemetery.
