story behind the photo of Jake, Boots and Scotty.

my aunt 'Boots' lived in Dubach, Louisiana and was one of the few Rogers relatives of whom I knew, as we only moved back to the Ruston, LA area when I was in the 11th grade high school.

Anyway, I became fast friends with her oldest son, Jimmy, and would travel to Dubach very often on Sunday afternoons to visit. Later, after I had served in the U S Navy, and was attending Louisiana Tech University, her next youngest son, Ben, began college and lived with me for a time in an apartment which I was renting close to the college.

After Ruth and I had married and had children, our oldest daughter, Talley, had her first son, Scotty. One day we took a vacation to visit my mother in Ruston and during that trip decided to visit Uncle Jake and Aunt Boots in Dubach. We took the short drive up to Dubach and shortly arrived at the Rogers home.

As we exited the car we could hear Aunt Boots laughing within the home. I decided to play a small trick on them. I took little Scotty and placed him on their front doorstep and rang the doorbell. Ruth, myself and Talley then hid around the corner of the house so that they could not see us.

Aunt Boots came to the door and shortly let out a cry - "Jake, Jake, come and look! Someone has left a baby on our doorstep."
Jake came to the door and asked her if she had seen anyone who might have done this. Aunt Boots was wondering how she could possible raise another child and put him through school.

All the while, Ruth, Talley and myself were having a hard time not laughing out loud as we listened as they picked Scotty up and took him inside.

Finally, after a few more minutes, we went to the door and rang the door bell. Uncle Jake came and answered and it was not long after that they realized that we were playing a trick on them and Talley reclaimed her son. We all had a good laugh and had a great visit with them.
