Dale Kemling
Dale Kemling was born on October 14, 1922 at Griswold Iowa. He was the third of seven boys born to Wilbur and Laura Goltry Kemling. The family moved to a farm east of Grant Nebraska when Dale was an infant where he grew up and spent the majority of his life. Dale graduated from Perkins County High School in 1941. Dale joined the United States Army in May of 1945 and served as a paratrooper in occupied Germany after the end of World War 2. He was discharged in December of 1946 and returned to Grant.
Dale was married to Betty Keyes in York on June 6, 1948.Three children were born to this union that later ended in divorce. They maintained the farm where Dale enjoyed the livestock aspect of agriculture. The Kemlings operated a dairy until 1987 when they sold the dairy as part of a buy out program offered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
After the cows were gone, Dale brought in goats to keep him busy. Dale suffered a stroke in 2003 but was able to maintain at home with the help of family. He moved to Park Ridge Assisted Living in Grant in 2007 and enjoyed his stay there until he fell last month and was moved to the Golden Ours Convalescent Home. He died at Golden Ours late Saturday night, April 17, 2010. He had reached the age of 87. Dale had been a past member of the United Methodist Church and the American Legion.
In addition to his parents, Dale was preceded in death by three brothers- Max, Orville, and Bob. He is survived by 2 sons- Jim and his wife Star of Grant and Bill and his wife Gin of Sierra Vista Arizona; 1 daughter- Genise and her husband John Anderson of Milwaukee Wisconsin; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers- Paul (Jackie) of Grand Island, Dwight (Ruth) of Lincoln, and Glendon (Glenice) of Long Island New York; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 23, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the Grant New Life Fellowship Church with Pastor Vince Carrig and John Anderson, officiating. Burial will be in the Grant Cemetery with a flag presentation by the Perkins County Veterans. A memorial has been established.
