Gunder Gunderson Dale, born on cottager's farm (husemans place) called Fyskehyl or Fiskehyk in Seljord, Norway. Son of Gunnar Kjittelson of Gravli and Torild Gunnarsdotter of Ovsttveiten. Emigrated from Telemark, via Skien, Norway in 1845. (Here pictured with granddaughter, Josie at GAR reunion in Crookston, MN. ca. 1906). First settled in Wisconsin, where he married (on December 7, 1849) Gunhild Halvorsdatter in Koshkonong. He then settled in southeastern Minnesota where he eventually enlisted to fight in the Civil War. Moved to Polk County, MN in 1894 upon the death of his wife to live with his loving and generous son, Gunder G. Dale on his farm 3 mi. east of Climax, MN.
Father of eight children, in order: (1) Gunder G. Dale, (2) Halvor, (3) Ole, (4) Kittel (5) Aslak (6) Turine (Kolden), (7) Anne (Jacobson) and (8) Andreas, aka Andrew Dahle.

History of Polk County (pub. 1976) erroneously cites wife as Gonel Skrie.
