John Campbell

Mr. John Campbell of West Wheatfield township, died on Monday, June 8, 1896, aged 83 years, 6 months and 20 days, He was the father of nine children, six of whom are yet still living; 39 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren survive him.

John Campbell, the elder of two children born to David Campbell and Elizabeth Kerr Campbell, after the death of his Mother when his sister Elizabeth was a baby, was reared by his grandparents, Samuel and Jane Kerr, who lived on a tract of land on the South side of Blacklick Creek opposite where the village of Heshbon now stands. John is reported to have been an upright citizen of somewhat austere manner, very positive in his convictions and firm in the observance of what he considered right or that which was his duty. Even though his manner and appearance were austere he was highly respected by his neighbors and relatives, and many called upon him for council. Those in need of help received such as he had to give.
