Police quoted the engineer of the Norfolk and Southern train, C.M. Desern of Raleigh, as saying Adams was sleeping on the tracks and the freight could not be stopped in time.
Adams is survived by his father, J.E. Adams of Lancaster, SC; and three sisters, Mrs. Annie Lyles and Mrs. Janie Snipes of Lancaster, and Mrs. M.G. Ashe of Rutherfordton.
Funeral services will be conducted at Pleasant Plain Baptist Church, Lancaster, by the Rev.A.J. Wolfe, interment will follow in in the church cemetery.
