Elizabeth Griffin Wood died April 20, 2006, after a brief illness.

She was born Nov. 19, 1926, to Spencer and Ida Griffin in Mount Sterling. Her father was a teacher and administrator in Utah schools, and her early years were spent in Bluebell, Laketown, Garden City and Newton, where he had teaching assignments. When she was in fifth grade, her parents permanently moved to Providence.

Elizabeth graduated from South Cache High School and Utah State University with a degree in elementary education. She later became a certified librarian. She taught kindergarten for one year at Sunset View in Provo.

When Elizabeth was in high school, she met a tall, smart, good-looking young man from River Heights. She married Stephen L. Wood in the Logan LDS Temple in 1947, and they are the proud parents of three children. Elizabeth accompanied her husband as he worked in Beaver, Utah; Lawrence, Kan.; Canada; Costa Rica; and Venezuela, but spent most of her life in Provo.

Elizabeth loved reading books, particularly children?s literature, and she was a wonderful storyteller. She loved learning and took many classes at BYU. Elizabeth delighted her family and friends with chocolate creations that she shared generously.

As a member of the LDS Church, she spent many years teaching children and serving in the Primary, Young Women, Relief Society and Sunday school. She particularly enjoyed the time she served as a part-time service missionary at the MTC in Provo.

Elizabeth loved her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and they cherish her. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brothers, Spencer Dee and David. She is survived by her husband, Stephen; her children, Katherine (Robert) Brown, John (Karrie) Wood and Marian (Michael) Pickerd; her 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; and her two sisters, Ida Mae and Janet.
