Viola Josephine "Jo" Carey, 84, of 1410 Garnet St. died Aug 23, 1995, at Park Manor Rehabilitation Center.
Visitation and viewing will be from 1 to 5 today and from 9 a.m. to noon Monday at Herring Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder St. The funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. David Parker of Pioneer United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, 2120 S. Second Ave.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Christian Aid Center, Sunshine Club or Prescott Home Ec CLub through the funeral home.
Mrs. Carey was born Nov. 24, 1910, in Harrison, Idaho, to Curtis and Emily Bowers Marsh. She attended school in Helix, Ore., graduating from high school there.
She came to Walla Walla and earned a registered nursing degree from St. Mary School of Nursing. She began her nursing career at St. Mary and later moved to Richland, continuing as an R. N. at Kadlec Hospital.
She moved to Seattle and in 1952 married Dell Carey, there she nursed at Providence Hospital and was nursing supervisor until her retirement in 1975. After Mr. Carey's death in 1975, she returned to Walla Walla to be near her sister.
A gardener, she enjoyed her roses. She was involved in the St. Mary Nurses Alumnae and was also a member of Pioneer United Methodist church and the Prescott Home Ec Club. She also delivered meals on wheels.
Surviving are her sister, Mary Nelson of Walla Walla, and several nieces and nephews, including Gailord Nelson Jr. of Prescott and Dale Nelson of Walla Walla. She was preceded in death by a half sister, Beatrice Kelly; and five half brothers, Dan, Tom, Harry, Ed and Percy Kelly.
