Irene (Letcher) Preston, 98, of Great Falls, a former waitress, died of natural causes Friday at a local care facility.

Visitation is 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today at Schnider Funeral Home, with entombment 2 p.m. Friday at Hillcrest Lawn Mausoleum.

Irene was born Dec. 15, 1911 in Antler, North Dakota, and was raised in Great Falls. She and Don Peter Preston were married May 25, 1935. He died Aug. 16, 1961.

Irene was a waitress at the 7Up Ranch, a housekeeper at the Blue Sky Motel and also worked at Bosing Egg Hatchery. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary of Lincoln.

Irene loved to arm wrestle, and when she was in her 80s, took first place against a man. She loved fishing, hunting, and shooting pool, where she took home numerous trophies. She loved feeding the deer in her back yard and keeping a journal of everyday life.

She is survived by the children of her sisters, Annie and Dora.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Don; her parents, John and Ida Letcher; and brothers and sisters: Mary Rickard, Ida Mickels, John Letcher, Edna Letcher, Walter Letcher, Margaret Sharon, Victor Letcher, Edward Letcher, Emily Tinker and Dora VanAllen.
