A member of the catering and confectionary firm of Ridley, Kennedy, Fritz & Force. Wm. FORCE was associated with & a partner in the "Oldest Candy Manufactory in America" per ad in an 1860's NYC Directory. RIDLEY & Co., corner of Chambers & Hudson Sts. with a branch store on Fifth Av. & 26th St., NYC.
His obit. was in the N.Y. Times of Sun. Oct. 24, 1897. The Rev. F. H. Jacobs of the Hanson Place Baptist Church held the funeral services. It stated he was born near the Duane St. quarters of Engine No. 1, Hudson, or "Hayseed," Volunteer Fire Dept., and "ran" with it. He served an apprenticeship to A.T. Stewart (The iron store and first dept. store in Manhattan).
He was identified with several Republican organizations. A wife, six sons, and a daughter survive him.
He was 73 yrs. old and a messenger in the Third or Warehousing Div. of the Custom House. Funeral services were at his home at 381 Cumberland St., B'klyn.
Moved from New York City to B'klyn in 1847.
He was married first to Mary Ross and after her death in 1871 he married Mrs. Catherine A. Monahan Fransioli in 1875. He had 5 children with Mary (William Ross, James, Agnes, Washington, and Alexander Stuart Force) & 1 (Edward J. Force) with Catherine.
William's parents moved from New Jersey to Manhattan, NYC between 1816-1823.
Wm. had brothers Hiram Force (in this plot) and James L. Force of Phillipsburg, Warren Co., NJ.
