ORIENT MAN DIES AT 56 Grandson of First Governor of Oregon Leaves Family of Five. ORIENT. Wash., March 9. (Special.) Robert S. Ledgerwood, a prominent Orient business man, died at his home here Tuesday night after a long Illness, of cancer of the stomach. Mr. Ledgerwood was born at Roseburg, Or, 66 years ago, being the son of Thomas and Eliza Ledgerwood. He came to Spokane County in 1878 and for a number of years engaged In contracting during the period of construction of Fort Spokane. In 1882 he homesteaded in the Columbia River Valley, near Rice, where he resided for many years and raised his family of five children, four sons, Cline, Frank, Howard, and Walter, and one daughter, Glen. His wife died 11 years ago. He leave four brothers, W. E. Ledgerwood, of Portland; T. J. Ledgerwood, of Orient; Christopher A, of Colvllle and I F.. of Rice, and one sister, Mrs. W. T. Furgeson. of Kettle Falls. His father. Thomas Ledgerwood, who resides at Kettle Falls, also survives.

Robert Ledgerwood, until recently a resident of this place, died at orient Wednesday morning. The funeral was conducted by the Masons on Friday. Mr. Ledgerwood was one of the first mayors of this place. Age 56 years. He was a son of Thomas Ledgerwood, one of the early pioneers of this state, who survives him. he has three brothers - C.A. Legerwood of Colville, Joseph of Orient and LaFayette of Rice, and a sister Mrs. W.T. Ferguson of this place, also five children, Clyde, Glen, Frank, Walter and Howard. Mr. Ledgerwood was one of nature's noblemen, a good neighbor, upright and honorable and a man respected and loved by everyone. The writer of this, with an acquaintance of over twenty years, can truthfully say he never heard the deceased criticized or unfavorably spoken of.
