He was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, St. John's Lodge #1, AF&AM, Cape Fear Chapter # 346, Order of Eastern Star where he served as Worthy Patron, and also served as Grand Chaplain for the Grand Chapter of North Carolina. He was a proud veteran of the US Navy serving during WW II.
