Victor Wade Bennett, a long-time resident of Fletcher, died Tuesday, May 30, 2006, in Lawton, Oklahoma, at the age of 84 years.

Victor was born February 20, 1922, near Rocky Ford, east of Fletcher, Oklahoma, to Charles and Bertha (Tilley) Bennett. He married Rosalie (Pahcoddy) April 3, 1945, in Fletcher. Victor served in the United States Army during World War II and returned as a reservist during the Korean Conflict. After receiving an honorable discharge for his time of service, he began working for Pickett Brothers in Cyril as a truck driver. He hauled asphalt to various cities throughout the state. He was later employed as an auto mechanic with the civil service division of Fort Sill. Victor faithfully attended the Assembly of God Church, Fletcher. He is remembered as a working man, but always found time to be active in Little League, Fletcher.

Victor is survived by his wife of 61 years, Rosalie Bennett, of the home; five sons, Danny Bennett and wife Donna; Geary Bennett; Armand Bennett; Keith Bennett, all of Fletcher, OK; and Mike Bennett, Elgin, OK; three daughters, Vickie Tahsequah and husband LaVerne, Fletcher, OK; Paula Foster and husband Jim, Carrollton, TX; and Sharon Wolfe, Fletcher, OK; one brother, Lynn Bennett and wife Peggy, Midwest City, OK; two sisters, Mildred Stinnett, Bakersville, CA; and Norma Holder, Northeastern, Oklahoma; twenty grandchildren; twenty-nine "greatest" grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends and acquaintances. He was preceded in death by both parents; six brothers; four sisters; one granddaughter and two great-granddaughters.

A prayer service will be held Thursday, June 1, 2006, at 7:00pm at Hodge Funeral Home Chapel – Fletcher. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 2, 2006, at 2:00pm at the Assembly of God Church, Fletcher, with Pastor Robert Whitley officiating. Interment, with military honors, will follow at Little Washita Indian Cemetery, under the direction of Hodge Funeral Home – Fletcher.
