William C. "Bill" Hespen, son of Cassen William and Emilie Marie Carline (Meyer) Hespen, was born January 22, 1924, at Deshler, Nebraska, and died at his home in York, Nebraska, on Saturday, April 13, 1996, at the age of 72. Besides Deshler, he lived at Hardy, Nebraska.

Bill was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, York, Nebraska, the Superior, Nebraska, Eagles Lodge and the Deshler American Legion.

Bill was employed by Ideal Cement Company of Superior.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his sister, Anna Farley; and an infant sister.

Survivors include one daughter, Shirley Payne and her husband Sonny of Aurora, Nebraska; one son, Steve Hespen and his wife Judy of Carriere, Mississippi; one brother, John Hespen of Beatrice, Nebraska; one sister, Louise Andersen of Superior, Nebraska; one uncle Herman Hespen of Hebron, Nebraska; four grandchildren, Hunter and Halley Hespen of Carriere, Mississippi, Michael Fry of Clay Center, Nebraska, and Marti Kehn of Edgar, Nebraska; one great grandson, Brett Kehn of Edgar, Nebraska; and his special friend, Freddit Oglesby of York, Nebraska.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 17, 1996, at 10 a.m. from Megrue-Price Funeral Home in Superior, Nebraska, with Pastor Dick Woolard officiating. Music was provided by Carol Shambaugh soloist singing "Whatever God Ordains Is Right" and "How Great Thou Art" with Carlita Price as organist and accompanist. Pallbearers were Dick Fish, Max Darling, LaVern Bohling, Bill Dixon, Clarence Gebers and Herman Fintel. Military Rites were given by the Deshler American Legion Post #352. Burial was in Deshler City Cemetery. Megrue-Price Funeral Home of Superior, Nebraska, was in charge of the arrangements.
