George William Brown was (probably) born in Bingham Twp., Clinton Co., MI in 1860, the Son of Sylvester Frerot/Frereau dit Brown and Victoria Lorrain/Laurent/Larrow. During his early childhood, his Father Sylvester joined the 23rd Michigan Volunteer Infantry and fought in the Civil War, including participating in Sherman's "March to the Sea".

He married (Susan) Almeda "Meda" Cooley in Mt. Pleasant, Mi., on Apr. 17, 1886. Their first child Minnie was born there in 1888. The family settled on a farm in Cherry Grove Twp., Wexford Co., Mi., prior to 1890, where children Myrtle, George and Arthur were born. This 40 acre farm was across the road & kitty-corner to a brother's 40 & parents' 40 acre farms, which were in Clam Lake Twp., Wexford Co., MI. His occupations included farming and masonry. In about 1906-7 they owned a general store in Buckley, Mi., and soon thereafter built and occupied a home in Cadillac, Mi. near the hospital, where their Son George was undergoing long term treatment for the loss of a lung from a horse-riding accident.

George and Meda spent his remaining years on another farm near Manton, Mi. on the NW corner of N 39 & E 18 Rds. George was hospitalized & died at the Traverse City Mi., State Hospital in 1940.
