Burton Kirtley, Jr. became acting postmaster in November 1962 replacing Don R. Ray who was Acting Postmaster for 22 months. Congressman Purcell of Wichita Falls appointed Mr. Burton Postmaster in 1963.
Burton Kirtley was a graduate of Allen Military Academy and North Texas State University before entering the US Army. He served in the 90th Infantry in World War II seeing service at D-Day in Normandy on 6 June 1944. Burton was section leader of the 359th Infantry Regiment. He was twice decorated for heroism and was wounded in action. He returned to Graham after the war to join his father in the Kirtley Drilling Company. He retired from the US Postal Service in 1982. He was active in Rotary Club, American Legion, Chamber of Commerce. First United Methodist Church where he served on the official board and was a worked with the United Youth Fellowship
Survived by his wife.
