Mrs. Edith Estella Clanton, 92, of 837 27th Street, Cairo, died Saturday afternoon at 12:45 p.m. in the PADCO Community Hospital in Cairo following a brief illness. She was the oldest member of the First Southern Baptist Church and a 50-year member of the Queen Hester M. Chapter No. 719 Order of the Eastern Star of Cairo.
Mrs. Clanton is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Alma Johnson, Mrs. Eva Shanahan and Mrs. Billie Elias all of Cairo, and Mrs. Juanita McClure of Napa, California; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Thomas Clanton, in 1936 and by three daughters, Mrs. Marie Fox in 1971, Mrs. Vera Del Vecchio in 1949 and an infant daughter, Venus Clanton, in 1908.
Friends may call at the Crain Funeral Chapel in Cairo after 4 p.m. today. The remains will be taken to the First Southern Baptist Church at noon on Tuesday where funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Lucian Bozarth and with the Rev. Larry Potts officiating. Interment will follow in the Thistlewood Cemetery in Mounds. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Southern Baptist Church Parsonage Building Fund in memory of Mrs. Clanton.
