Grandpa Covert Crosses the River

Enfeebled by age and sickness Alexander Covert, better known as "Grandpa," died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. N. A. Robbins, at LaPrairie, on Friday last. The deceased was an old settler and had a multitude of real friends. The funeral on Sunday at Pulaski was largely attended, many friends from Augusta being among the mourners. The services were conducted by Rev. F. W. Leonard, pastor of the Christian church at Augusta.

Obituary
Alexander Covert, son of Thomas and Rhoda Covert, was born Dec. 17, 1842, in the state of New Jersey, Monmouth county, and departed this life Sept. 10, 1920.

Nov. 25, 1861, he was married to Mary E. DeGroot. To this union were born ten children, five sons and five daughters, eight of whom are living, two sons having preceded him in death and his wife leaving him on Oct. 14, 1908.

Those children left to mourn his loss are: Thomas of Littleton, Edward L., Mrs, N. A. Robbins, Mrs, J. F. White, Mrs. E. H. White, all of LaPrairie, John R. of Loraine, Mrs. M. H. Jaspers and Mrs. E. H. Jaspers of Bloomington, Ill., besides forty-one grandchildren and eight great grandchildren and one brother, Thomas L. of West Long Branch, New Jersey. Two other brothers and two sisters, besides his father and mother have preceded him in death.

He came to the home of his daughter, Mrs, N. A. Robbins, on August 28, 1920, where he became ill and departed this life on Friday morning, Sept. 10, 1920, aged 77 years, 8 months and 23 days, despite the fact that all that loving hands and doctor's care could do for him.

"Grandpa Covert" as he was generally called had been amember of the Methodist church of Pulaski for a number of years, and was a kind and loving man, both at home and among his best of friends, for he was a friend to all who knew him and was especially fond of children.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at the Pulaski M. E. church and the body was laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery.
