BATMAN

Nora Frances (Babcock) Batman, the daughter of James A. and Sarah Babcock, was born near DePauw, Harrison County, Ind., on January 18, 1891, and died July 18, 1981, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Nora had been in failing health for the past four years.

She was baptized into the Christian Church many years ago in the beautiful Blue River in Indiana. On December 19, 1909, at Sullivan, Ill., Nora was united in marriage to Arthur Emery Batman of Milltown, Ind. To this union four sons and one daughter were born: Robert Matthew, now deceased; Roland Emery; Lois; and twin sons Arthur Ralph and Albert Kenneth, who passed away in infancy. She was also preceded in death by her father and mother, and three brothers and sisters.

In 1918, they moved to Knoxville, later living in Wayne and Lucas counties. After Mr. Batman's death in August of 1961, Nora lived on the farm for seven years. In 1966, she moved to Chariton, living there until her illness in July of 1979. In September of 1979, she transferred to the Indianola Good Samaritan Center, where she stayed until July 10, 1981. Nora became seriously ill and was taken to Iowa Methodist Medical Center, where she remained until her death.

Surviving Nora are her daughter, Lois, and son-in-law Wayne Mumford of Anderson, Calif.; daughter-in-law Mrs. Maymie Batman of Chariton; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Nora was active in community affairs, especially in the early growth of the Lucas County Memorial Hospital. She was a loving mother and neighbor, was always willing to help those in need, and will be missed by all who knew her.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 21, 1981, at the Fielding Funeral Home, with Pastor G. L. King conducting. Burial was in the Chariton Cemetery.
