MAN FATALLY INJURED AFTER FALL OFF WAGON
A rubber-tired wagon being towed by a tractor struck a bump in the pavement near the intersection of US Highway 27 and North Anthony Blvd Friday, throwing one of its occupants, Martin Fruechtnenicht, out on the road and fatally injuring him.

Fruechtenicht, 54 of RR10, died at 5:45 pm in the Lutheran Hospital after he had been tossed onto the road at 4:30 pm. He suffered a brain concussion and a fractured skull. The driver of the tractor Christ Knipstein (wife Frieda was Martin's 1st cousin), RR11 told investigating officers from the Sheriff's Office and the Indiana State Police that the tractor and wagon rolled over a bump in the pavement as he was about to turn from the highway onto North Anthony Blvd.

LOSES BALANCE
A rider in the wagon, Mart Hengsteler, RR10, said Fruechtenicht lost his balance and fell to the pavement. A verdict of accidental death was given today by Dr H Paul Miller, Allen County coroner. The body was taken to the Klaehn Funeral Home.

A farmer, Fruechtenicht was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Suburban.

Survivors include the widow, Esther; three brothers, Frank C, RR10, and Fred M and Hugo both of Fort Wayne; and three sisters, Mrs Ida Hartman, Fort Wayne and Mrs Alma Kruse and Mrs Helen Schmidt both of RR5.

Funeral services will be held at 2pm Tuesday at the residence and at 2:30 pm at the church, the Rev Louis J Fuchs officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the residence after 2 pm Sunday. Fort Wayne Journal Gazette - September 19, 1953
